AUSTRALIAN SAILING ADULT LEARN TO SAIL COURSE

DBYC is excited to offer an intensive four session learn to sail course for adults (18+)  over the christmas break. 

The course will be delivered under the nationally recognised Australian Sailing Start Sailing 1& 2 syllabus with logbooks and guidebooks issued to the particiapants at the commencement of the program.  A certificate of completion provided for students who successfuly complete the course.

Australian Sailing Start Sailing 1

This course introduces participants to dinghy sailing and its fundamental skills so they learn terminology and equipment and practice launching and returning to shore and capsize recovery. 

Course Prerequisites

Water confident.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 1 completion certificate. 

Australian Sailing Start Sailing 2

Course Overview
This course equips participants with boat rigging knowledge and sailing skills to sail a dinghy on their own. 

Course Prerequisites

Water confident, and the skills and knowledge gained in Start Sailing 1.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who have completed Start Sailing 1 and are wanting to learn and continue to develop their fundamental sailing skills.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 2 completion certificate. 

 

Course Details 

Dates

Day one 27th Dec – 2pm – 7pm (4 hrs practical and 1 hr Theory in bar) 

  • Safety, Basic Boats skills, rigging 
  • Steering and swapping sides 

Day two 28th Dec  - 8:30am – 1:30pm  (4 hrs practical and 1 hr Theory in bar)

  • Helming and Main sail (by crew) 
  • Tacking and getting in/out of beach 

Day Three 29th Dec - 8:30am – 1:30pm (4 hrs practical and 1 hr Theory in bar)

  • Helming and Main sail (by crew or skipper) 
  • Upwind sailing 

Day four 30th Dec - 8:30am – 1:30pm (4 hrs practical and 1 hr Theory in bar)

  • Helming, Jib and Main sail (by skipper) 
  • All angles of sailing  

Makeup day 2nd Jan - 8:30am – 1:30pm (if needed)

Price

The course cost is $330 inc GST.

Non DBYC members have the option to be upgraded to a full DBYC Full Ordinary membership and ongoing coaching throughout the season for a further $110. (Total cost $440)
