The 2017/18 sailing season was officially opened by the club Patron, Barry House. Dignitaries including the Mayor, City Councillors, Australian Sailing Officials, Commodores, and Flag Officers were in attendance for the proceedings which were led by Officer Of The Day and past Commodore Steve Flower. Commodore, Graeme Missen, addressed the membership and dignitaries outlining all the successes that the club has had over the previous year and thanked the Flag Officers, Committee Members and Members who were involved in making the season such a huge success. Graeme's heart-felt words were well received by members and guests. Thanks to the sailors and officials who travelled considerable distances to celebrate the opening of our season.
Many thanks to the Officers and Committee Members who have worked tirelessly over the winter in preparation for Opening Day and the 2017/18 sailing season.
A delicious luncheon was provided by the House Committee’s team, lead by Chris Ryall. Thanks to all the dedicated volunteers who provided an excellent lunch.
Following lunch, sailors took to the water for the “sail past” which had them sail along the shore line, past the clubhouse, to open the sailing season.
At 2:30 pm, the Patron’s Cup race took place in perfect conditions. 20 + boats took to Georgaphe Bay, including a selection of Lasers, GP14’s, Catamarans, Tasers, a Flying Ant, and a 29er. Thanks to the dedicated start boat and support boat crews who gave up their time to put on a fantastic race.
A special thanks to Bob Spolding who has kindly allowed the club to use his power boat as a start boat for this season. Our start crew will certainly appreciate being able to stay warm and dry while running the races.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the Patron’s Cup. We hope to see you on the water throughout the season!
