First Time on the Start Line

By Morgan Flower on Nov 24, 2017

On Sunday 19th November, a fleet of novice minnow sailors took to the water to experience their very first race, Many of the sailors had just completed their five week intensive Australian Sailing Start Sailing 1 & 2 course and others had been sailing for just a season or two. Light winds made starting challenging but every boat on the water managed to cross the line and complete a race. Four races were held throughout the morning with sailors improving their starting techniques and learning how to read the starting flags. Many instructors were on hand to coach the sailors around the course and promote a fun and competitive atmosphere. Sailors were cheered on by parents and spectators and a pack of local dogs lining the beach.

Following the racing, Vice Commodore Phil Hughes kept sailors and their parents happy with a sausage sizzle.  A great morning of fun was had by all.
