Last weekend, a small contingent of minnow sailors from DBYC joined forces with sailors TCYC for a sailing camp in Rockingham, run by the Minnow Association WA. Coaching was lead by our very own Dean Cowan, assisted with expertise from Michael and Mal from TCYC. The forecasted weather was not favourable, however it proved to be sunny with moderate 10-15 knot winds on Saturday. There was a training session in the morning and some further training and racing in the afternoon. There was a range of skills amongst the sailors with some juniors sailing for the first time since autumn and others coming back in from the flying ants to continue to improve their skills.
Lots of fun was to be had back at the hard stand where tents were set up with a group dinner, some mulled wine for the adults and movies for the kids. Sunday was cool and delivered just enough wind to ensure another 3 hour sailing session, after morning fitness. The young sailors all came away with another weekend of fun on the water, learning some valuable skills to improve their sailing before the official start of the season.
